You are eligible to attend license upgrading and training courses at the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School and will become eligible for the benefits payable in connection with your attendance, if you are an active member in good standing of District No. 1-PCD, MEBA. You must also:

If you do not meet the eligibility requirements explained above, you may still be entitled to attend courses to fulfill training requirements for a specific anticipated billet under a participating Employer’s U.S. Government contract or to fulfill training requirements needed for regulatory requirements for acquisition or retention of professional credentials as prescribed by the United States Coast Guard for a specific anticipated billet or type of shipboard service.
Retirees may also be eligible to take classes at the School.

The Calhoon MEBA Engineering School is a private maritime educational facility for training members of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association, as well as all maritime and related industry professionals.
The School provides professional marine engineers, deck officers and related industry professionals with internationally recognized, state of the art training and experience that enhances the safety, reliability and profitability of your vessels and equipment, while preserving and protecting the natural environment.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you may apply to take classes at approved commercial upgrading schools. You may be eligible for reimbursement by the Training Plan for the cost of the classes, provided the School’s Director approves the classes in writing and you provide evidence of your successful completion of the class.
You must submit a completed application along with required documentation to the Training Plan to be reimbursed for your classes. Reimbursement can cover tuition and travel to attend classes.
